Goose incubation

Quote:
Days 4 to lockdown cool eggs for 10- 15 minutes and mist with water... one time a day, and some people only do it every other day. You are misting because waterfowl leave their eggs for a few minutes to potty, eat, and have a quick dip in the lake and then go back to the nest a little wet... So eggs need to be wet down once a day and cooled at the same time from days 4-lockdown... some people only mist and do not cool so it is your preference...
Lockdown is just that... Just like with chickens you up the humidity, but higher with waterfowl, and do not open the bator at all and during this time cooling and turning is not needed...

thank you. I will have to save this info as it will be some time before I have a flock of Pilgrims.

congrats!!!!!

We answered an ad on craigslist for a quad of embdens. When we got there, the gander and one goose had already been sold. We bought the other two geese and the previous owners gave us 7 eggs that they had laid. We waited a week and added the 9 eggs that the geese laid after we got them. 2 eggs were clear when we candled at day 10.

A few days later one of the geese started setting. We candled her clutch tonight and she has 4 that are developing, but we aren't sure when she started setting in earnest.

I have the broodiest momma goose you have ever seen so she does all the work for me until they hatch:) She does all the incubating, misting and turning. I remove them from the nest when they each hatch and then I take over from there. She had just set for 2 1/2 months on two different nests continuous and now she found a nest with 2 eggs that my emden had made so now she thinks its time to sit again for another round. The rest of the females just let her have at it now while they graze. swim and have a good time and she does is sit but she seems perfectly content with that.

Too bad you aren't closer, I've got 3 male embdens, 1 I hatched last year, the others were supposed to be a pair

I'd trade you an embden gander for a couple babies

I'd gladly make the trade if you were close enough. We've tried to find a gander but have been unsuccessful so far.
