Thanks for all the kind words!!!

I am thrilled to report that my first adopter took the three 6-8 week old dewlap ganders today!!! They will be in a forever pet home, complete with quality vet care!!!!

The grey juvenile dewlap (probably a boy) that the avian sanctuary guy took to the vet today is preliminarily diagnosed with a fractured spine. The buff girl juvenile is preliminarily diagnosed with a bruised spine. She also has a broken toe, which they believe is a week old injury. They are in sleeves in a confined pen at his place. I will pick them up Friday morning to take them to my vet for follow up care. I am also taking the dewlap juvenile we believe is 100% blind and possibly the 3-4 week old grey babies. We will be giving the others a better look and if any concern us, we will take them too.

Enchanted Sunrise, I do not know any info about the craigslist ad, but if you can post someone locally about them, you can have them contact me, or I can get them in touch with Carole directly.

Iain, great chatting earlier. Great news on the first local placement! :D

All Iain is super busy with work, and now all these geese as well. I am putting together an immediate needs list, a feed list, and a wait list for the birds looking for placement. Iain has to travel for her job next week, so I am hoping to have all of the info ready before she heads out on Sunday.

Her local feed store is wonderful and will be accepting direct payments for bags of feed he will set aside to be picked up as needed.

Keep up the sharing of this story and encouraging others to adopt a pair or trio of geese. Shipping plus box fee will not be due until just before the birds are ready to be sent. When you commit to a number of geese you will have the option to call the feed store and buy a bag of feed or PayPal the funds directly to Iain. This will be your commitment to taking the birds, and hopefully prevent backing out when the time comes for the birds to travel to new homes.

Iain has me getting her leg bands to use on the birds that will be shipping to their new forever homes. This way it is easy to visually ID the birds when anyone local comes to look and take a few home with them. Plus will make putting the right bird with the shipping box much more simple.

These birds are one step closer to having good forever homes with proper feed and medical care. Iain needs you to keep spreading the word and following through on offers of help.

Thanks for the help, Celtic!!! It is so appreciated!!!

I think I finally got an accurate count of those I brought home. Total is 69 birds. 3 placed. I am keeping 5. Celtic is taking at least 4 (I hope that is right). I believe a lady from SE Washington is driving down here to take 6-8 next week. Triplell, are you taking 2 or 3 pairs??

Assuming I have the current pre-placement holds correct, that leaves 44 birds that need homes!!!!!!! Please help!!!

Also, while uncomfortable discussing money spent, feed/straw for trip was $26, gas was approximately $800+, today's feed bill was $62. So, that gives me a total of $900 spent thus far for these sweet birds. Pretty sure Friday's vet bill will be in the hundreds too.

My feed store guy will take direct payments for food. I believe my vet will also take direct payments for those that need medical attention. So, any help would be much appreciated!!

Is it possible to get some verbiage for what i would post on the local poultry boards and on my facebook? It would be for any animals needing rehoming in the California area. Somewhere in this thread i read she still has 40+ emus, 12+ llamas, 6 ostriches, then i am assuming more geese and then chickens. And i am assuming there is no rehoming fee, or perhaps there should be a modest one. i can have anyone contact me then i can pm you the info.

I do not see it up right now. I have seen her ads for Marans and emus ( not geese however) and tried to contact her about chickens. I think she gets some amount of replies then gets overwhelmed and doesn't respond.
So if Ian got a way of contacting her, might use that.
It usually says Monteray north? I think. They have their own CL, maybe it shows up there more frequently. That's assuming its the same people, but I'm pretty sure it is, think the name of the farm fit.

i totally understand getting overwhelmed with craigslist ads. And you have to be careful, if offering free birds, that they aren't going to someone with a devious purpose. There is a guy on our local craigslist all the time, asking for free chickens, ducks, rabbits, anything - then he turns around and sells them. People who have been to his place say he keeps them in appalling conditions.

Not sure if she has contacted Animal Place Rescue and Sanctuary: http://animalplace.org/ They mainly handle rescuing farm animals. They have a lovely farm in Vacaville, which i have seen, and then another one in Grass Valley. They may be overwhelmed at the moment as they took in many of the 5,000 chickens abandoned in a Turlock poultry farm a month or so ago. (Horrible situation, the owner just left them without food or water for weeks). But a rescue organization such as them, with volunteers, could handle placing a lot of animals.

Thanks for the pm Janet. i will call her when i get back from shopping and see how i can help.
