Lightning you wont want an auto door with the geese. We herd ours into their houses nightly, otherwise if the door was auto closing they could be shut out as they dont sleep all night and also dont look for home as sun down like chickens. Ours know the routine and know where they belong, but wait for us to put them there.

I want the automatic door more for opening up in the morning and letting them out. I moved up here from Houston to help my elderly parents, and sometimes helping my mom in the morning makes me late to let the ducks out. I'm putting an auto door on their house. So, an auto door on the goose house would do the same thing - let them out of the house to eat all that good grass nice and early, even if I am detained. I won't be depending on either door to put them up at night - I'll be doing that. What size door do geese this size need?

our door is 18" wide 36" tall works fine for Embdens

Not 3' wide but 18-20" wide would be good. Make sure you have enough room to get in and clean it out also.

It's official. The rescue african geese hate me for yesterday. They were hanging in the courtyard with the rest of the gang this morning, but went racing for the horse pasture as soon as they saw me. They wouldn't even leave pasture for their grain. My poor gander, Beta, who I was most worried about is acting a bit traumatized, but I think he will recover ok in time. Everyone else seems good. Now I have to figure out how to properly package the tubes of blood and get them sent on their way.

It's been a helluva week. TGIF!

My Africans are very sensitive to changes in their routine and don't really like anyone other than myself (because they are accustomed to me) handling or taking care of them. It will probeably take them a day or two but they will forgive you
