Goose lovers – please help!!

Iain, I didn't mean to ruffle any feathers. I do know him. Just preferred not to say it. Sorry, if you think I miss spoke. Just saying what I know to be true.

Gunnermate, it may be that Jim has or had money. Will Jim spend it on the care of Carole's birds? According to Carole, he would rather sell them for meat then spend another dime to care for them.

If we do not go get these geese, do you believe they will they be properly provided for? Do you think Jim/Carole will be responsible enough to see that these birds find their way into pet homes? In your opinion, is Carole scamming us or does she feel a genuine need for our help?

Those counts sure are confusing, she has grey dewlaps listed 3 times in adults. Looks like 11 grey dewlap ganders and 5 geese in the adults if I read that right.

Does she not have the juveniles and under 3 month olds gender ID'd? If not you may have trouble placing them if the ganders outnumber the geese.

I'm just responding to whether they have enough money to pay the vet. I think what your doing is wonderful.

Gunnermate, thank you for clarifying your perception of the situation. Thank you as well for the compliment.

It is obvious that there are no adult buff dewlap breeding pairs as there are only ganders... but there are 26 tested adult birds, of which there are 5 grey dewlap pairs and 1 white african pair. There are also 50+ untested/unsexed juveniles, although I would bet there are very few female dewlaps in that group...

What do you guys think? Should I still go there this weekend to get them??

Darn it.... I cannot back out of the commitment I made to these birds. Unless something terrible happens in the morning at the vet appt with my crippled goose, I will go and at least retrieve the geese with certificates. Who knows how many more I will take. I will be giving the others a careful assessment before making any decisions there.

Anyone want a pair of buff or grey ganders? I will have a bunch!

Spirit's appt is at 9am, and considering how she well she has done today (my little girl never ceases to amaze me), I see the vet concluding it is safe for me to leave. Then, I have a noon car appt to check an oil leak that is bothering me. If my burb gets the ok to travel with leak and/or the necessary repair can be done by Saturday evening, then it is full steam ahead.

I expect to be up super early to sex the babies I have set aside; I don't think I'll have time to sex all the youngsters, but there are quite a few lovely ones; you'll have to decide if you want untested youngsters in your Suburban crates.

In the baby group there is I very pretty little buff & I'm sure I have at least a pair of buffs in the whole group of younger ones. There is a gorgeous little White African amongst the babies and I'm sure amongst the youngsters there are at least 2 pair of the Super Africans. I counted the "walking wounded" adults (anglewings & feet problems) and there is a total of 19 buffs in there as well as whites, greys and super africans -- they are in with my llamas (who are skittish but don't spit or threaten). I know there are females amongst those buffs as they were some of our breeders and good egg layers, so you may have to decide if you wish to collect amongst them, not tested.
The tested ones are in the pen by themselves and have numbers on little plastic tie wraps around their ankles.

I'll write in the morning about the sexed babies.
