Good enough. LOL. I love Minnesota. Being from the plains, I like the trees and hills and lakes lakes lakes! I love to swim and boat, but not the same opportunity here. I'm lucky, we actually have some natural lakes in my part of the state, but the other 70% is increasingly drier and flatter.

Hi all, I am very touched that so many care about Spirit. Thank you for your support!

Spirit was at clinic for 8.5 hours. The surgery itself took 2.5 hours. Scott Echols, dvm extraordinaire, broke the upper leg that was rotated 90 degrees and straightened it, and also broke the foot in two places to reset the outer toe. Spirit has 6 side pins on top leg and 1 long vertical rod and then another 3 pins on foot. Dr. Echols was very pleased with how the surgery went and was full of optimism that Spirit will be able to have a pretty normal life eventually, but it will be a long road to recovery. The foot joint was fused so there will not be much flexion, but the knee joint is great, the bones are really strong, and the tendons/muscles were all in working order. However, Spirit has to relearn how to walk which will take some time. We expect to slowly start removing pins in 6 weeks, and Dr. Echols believes it will take in all 14-16 weeks to finish removing pins and have full recovery.

Spirit handled the procedure like a champ and much to everyone's happy surprise, was full of personality upon coming out of anesthesia and already trying to walk. Tomorrow, we will put her companion, Ember with her, and we are hopeful that she can be moved back outside in a mere few days, but will not be allowed a kiddy pool for a while.

Oh, and we also re-vent sexed her. Dr. Echols is 80% sure Spirit is a female, but we sent off a blood sample for dna testing to be 100%.

We have everyone set up into seperate pens at night but plan on letting them out together till Dec/Jan or Fighting breaks out... whatever happens first. Still need to install a line of sight block so we dont get fighting at the divider fences.
