You could put something up along the bottom of the fence that he can't get his head through. Or electrify the fence but I think I'd go for the first suggestion.

Bird netting and tie wraps maybe?

Yes good idea I willl poultry netting up tomorrow. I am still amazed they are volunteering themselves for that treatment. Silly silly girls

I think ducks are just programmed to take physical abuse from drakes and this is no different. The desire to mate over weighs anything else. Drakes are rough with their mating. Netting would work and buying it in rolls would make it pretty easy to put up too.

Yes i have a roll already I put some up my top paddock where my little bantams could squeeze between the wires. I didn't think of it. Do you think they would lay there and let him kill them even though they can get away and he can't chase them? I always thought the duck tried to struggle and that's why it gets so rough.. I guess not..

Not that I know he would actually kill them I don't think he is trying to he is trying to mate them but their necks are so thin compared to a goose.

I am not sure if he'd kill them he may but an not intentionally so netting should go up. When I had 4 geese 2 pairs they would gang up on the other birds ducks and chickens to the point I was worried for their lives. I had to rehome my 2 youngest and gosh I hated it but My land isn't good for trying to keep everyone separated we live in the mountains and trying to fence is a night mare. we had half acre professionally done can't afford more. So I rehomed to keep my birds safe. The 2 older one 10-5 yrs old are much easier to live with since the 2 younger [2yrs] ones left. He might could break a neck if he got hold just right. plus you don't want your lil goslings going through fencing to the wrong side either.

I'm sorry you had to re-home your geese. I don't want to re-home anyone and I have the room to keep them away from each other, I was jusy really hoping they could all use both the front pens together to give them all double the space but I don't think that is going to happen any time soon. Maybe after breeding season they might do a bit better under supervision.

Gosh I didn't think of that about the goslings! Yes I will do it today.

Things do settle down around here after breeding season comes to an end. But 4 geese together was like a gang of thugs. I just need to keep the 2- I have and be happy with that number. Now waiting for my Muscovy drake to get through his hormonal summer then things will really be settled. He hates my gander and my gander hates him so spring the gander is boss summer drake is boss.

Do you think when the ducks outnumber the geese by quite a bit if might help? Plus the Cayugas seem like a pretty sturdy breed. For some reason my Muscovy Cayuga crosses are quite dainty I feel, I thought Muscovy were big but I think I have seen a bit of variation in size? Like sub breeds or something? Some were for sale near me that were huge but I see many of her that look small. Also with a few drakes in the mix the girls won't throw themselves at the gander hopefully. Interestingly my gander doesn't bother with my chickens at all other than to protect the hens. Which extends to him chasing the roos off of they attempt to mate in front of him. Even when the chickens scratch around his goose's nest they get a pass. And he wasn't raised with chickens either. I really think if the ducks would leave him alone he would leave them alone they are going right out of their way to put themselves on a silver platter and u don't think he knows what to do other than biter them like that.
