Goose question

Strange. Well, I'd keep an eye on it. Give it the sniff test frequently to make sure it hasn't gone bad. Otherwise, I'd leave it in for now and see what it does.

first of all, day 5 is way too early to see much in any egg.
eggs do have an odor.
If you have to guess if it stinks, then it is probably not bad. if it is bad, you will know.

don't candle so often, give the eggs a chance to incubate ..

don't expect all goose eggs to hatch, they are not the easiest to incubate.

it looked like in the picture that the air cell was on bottom.
is that the way it is while in the incubator ?

Not necessarily. I can almost always see development in any type of egg by day five. This is a day five goose egg:

It's very possible to see life in an egg at Day five. That said, I would never encourage someone to toss an egg until day ten, just in case.

Candling frequently doesn't hurt eggs. I candled one egg every single day of development for an article I wrote. This caused no harm. While of course you won't see anything until the egg is developed enough, the candling itself is not a problem.

That's too bad Are you sure it's the stink of a rotting egg? That smell is pretty recognizable If you're not sure, I'd definitely give it longer.

Yes, I expected someone to chime up .
maybe for an experienced person, you can.
but it is not recommended for a novice person.
I will back out now, and you can take over.
BTW. just for the record.
I have been at this chicken thingy for over 48 years. I have two incubators that I have filled with various eggs several times the each hold over 500 eggs. I also have a smaller one that holds only about 200 eggs.
+ bad advice is worse than no advice.

I'm not looking to get into a fight, but I'm not sure what is bad about the advice I gave, which was don't throw it out yet, give it until day 10, or if it starts to smell like a rotting egg before then throw it out

With a bright enough candler, even a newbie will be able to see life at day 10, and probably day 5. I could the first time I did goose eggs, and the first time I ever incubated anything I could see life then too.

I didn't imply you gave bad advice.
in fact we said about the same thing about the egg being bad.
in general, there is a lot of bad advice on byc.
something that we as participants have no control over.
but one has to get inside the head of the OP a little, . if you can tell they do not know what the heck they are doing, don't give them expert advice. give them advice that will enhance their chances..

Hmmmm- update - egg was completely dark and the smell was no longer questionable - sadly had to toss it but on up side she gave me another to replace it today so fingers crossed - thanks again
