Gosling - Is this an Embden?

Oh I don't mind mixed birds. I only have two "pure bred" anythings, which are my Buff Orpington hen and my Black Australorp rooster. The rest, dogs, chickens, and duck are all mutts.

I actually prefer the mutts, no worries.

Looking around a bit, I gotta say she looks like the Toulouse goslings but a little bit lighter. That could easily be the cross.

Separate post for this

I vent sexed today, and double checked. Definitely got it all the way open to check and she is indeed a female. Unless there's some tiny penis hidden in there, and I watched the Metzer farms video, did that exactly and there wasn't any penis. So yay for female gosling! Guess I can keep the name. I plan on sexing my ducks as they hatch, I wish it was as easy on chickens…. ~_~

That's great you finally know you have a goose. I have a Toulouse goose and an Embden gander, I'm thinking that will be a nice cross. same as yours except for opposite sex. Love to see your lil one as she grows.

the dark bill is the only thing that throws me off though.

I just found this picture from last May. You can see that mine also had a dark bill at first. These are Toulouse, Embden and 1 Brown Chinese geese. I'd forgotten how sweet my little Heathens were, lol. Mine are mutts I ordered from a local farm store. They purchased from Mt. Healthy hatchery. Not my first choice but I do love my geese.

My goodness what a bunch of sweetness, ya know I forget what color my Embdens bill was when he hatched and since I didn't have a computer back then 6 yrs this may, I'll have to go an drag out the photo albums anyone remember them? lol and not sure what color Toulouse goslings bills are when they are babies since my girl was 4 months when I got her.

She's so cute and I'm so happy you took her! I can't believe that someone would just throw her mother's other egg away. What a waste of life. Did you decide yet if you were going to maybe go get her mother?

I drove by yesterday and it looks like she has rebuilt her nest and may have a new egg. I'll swing by tomorrow and see, if so I'll contact my friend to take her, and I'll get her at night.

Also on an unrelated note, 2 of my ducklings hatched today, they're mallards, and the third one which is hatching is completely yellow and very pale.

I've seen a few single yellow mallards in a raft of wild type ducklings a few times in my life but this is the first time I've hatched one. It's not done hatching and is behind its brothers/sisters so I'm waiting with fingers crossed. I haven't seen the eyes yet so who knows what it is exactly. (Albino or just white, that is.)

Glad you have a plan for the goose, and on the new duckling hatching too. Hopefully you can find a gosling friend for your little solo baby
