I had a White Chinese gosling hatch July 1. It was the only good egg out of the clutch so I immediately began looking for another gosling around the same age to keep it company. I picked up an African gosling a couple days ago(Chinese is one week old, African is two weeks old) and fortunately there have been no problems despite the one week age difference and they love each others company. I noticed this morning that the Chinese was slightly more lethargic than usual and was having labored breathing, opening his mouth to take breaths instead of breathing through his nostrils. I checked for clogged nares, but they are clean. The water dish is also deep enough for both goslings to submerge their bills. I will be calling my avian vet for more input and advice, and may even take the gosling in to be seen, but I'm wondering if anyone on here has any idea on what the issue is and any treatment suggestions if needed. Thanks in advance.

Anything changed in their environment? I hate to say it but could the little African have been harboring something? I know you are super careful about your birds but something we don't know if no symptoms are showing up. You could try VetRX and see if it helps. How does chest sound when you listen? Appetite?

No change in environment, diet, or routine. Had the Chinese not shown problem signs until I introduced the African that possibly would’ve crossed my mind, but the Chinese had been weaker since hatch. I took it to the vet this morning and it had a severe neurological dissorder, resulting in the side affects of labored breathing and seizures. There was nothing the vet could do, it was definitely suffering and breaking my heart to see it like that so I had the vet put it to sleep. Thank you for your response.
