Goslings of 2014 Hatch-a-long

I think so. He treats her differently to all the other animals. He's a bit rough at the moment. I take her out to him for about 5 minutes at a time. He taught her how to eat chick crumb and nibble the grass even though she isn't strong enough to take on a whole blade on her own yet.

Cant see what that baby turns out to look like henny!!
It looks like its breast is going to be white maybe :/

oh and brazil my alpha female is a chineseXgreylag but shes such a wimp if shes in a fighting situation and my goose that that is very strong and fights better some of my embden ganders is my buff african goose

Well hopefully the 4 toulouse eggs l bought will arrive this week. One of those is bound to be a girl.
haha, and off you go again......

I think I got her best side. You can see the white patch on her chest.
What a dear little thing. Very pale grey, though...a boy thing. Compare with these pics : Sebastopol family..males lighter grey.
Baby sebastopols...males very pale here, and females a slightly lighter grey., more like Lucy.
A bunch of mixed ebbden-toulouse. aren´t they sweet? But i don´t see a dark bill on any of these ones.

Wonderful, he´ll be great for her. Some bigger goslings can be bullies, depending on the breed, but they´re invaluable if you can keep your eye on them until she gets a bit bigger. Of my two singletons that took up company together, the month-old I thought was a female, because it was so good and gentle with the baby (that I thought was a male, because it was so forward.) They´re about 8 months old now, and I´m pretty sure now that the older one is a male, and the younger one is female!!!

Ooh there are some lovely babies there! Does the pale/dark rule apply with mixed breeds? I bought some welsummer x hyline eggs last year. They had what would typically be male and female markings but they turned out to be the opposite so who knows. I will stick with she and Lucy for now. It's better than it!

It depends which breeds...normal grey geese like Moose have the solid gene, but some breeds have a dilute gene which either lightens the feathers (females) or whitens the feathers (male) These are auto-sexing, like pilgrims. Other auto-sexing, the females are pied, and the males white, so they´d have the appropriately coloured fuzz as goslings. There are some breeds, like embdens, that you can tell when they´re tiny, as the females have darker fluff, but when they´re adult, they´re all of them white. Sebastopols and some others, too, so as you mentioned embdens and a sebastopol gander (is he white or another colour?) Embdens are bigger than sebastopols, and she doesn´t look big, so maybe her dad is the sebastopol (?).....and she seems to be pied, which brings in another gene, more to do with the buffbacks or possibly the sebastopol if he has this gene in him. Well, that´s how I understand it, if anyone knows better, they can have a crack at it!!

What fun!!

The goslings that i have that have purplish beaks are always males and they turn out grey most of the time :/
But it could be a buff cross so it could be either sex

Official introductions. Meet Lucy Goosey!

How are everyone's eggs/babies doing?

I had a male Toulouse and an Embden goose.. all of their girls were very dark and grew to be Toulouse grey, all the boys turned out pied.

Look, i found these tufted buffs, but they

have light grey down just like Lucy, so who knows.....I was trying to see the colour of the bill of buff babies, but didn´t get very far. Intriguing stuff, though.
