Goslings of 2014 Hatch-a-long

Henny, these are pics of some of my pied gozzies last September-ish. They´re mixed-breed. You can see they have a lot of light down on them. Are they darker than Lucy? Here they are after I put them back with mum. I had some of them hatch under a duck, and some of them hatch indoors as mum was spooked by the hatchlings! They look darker than Lucy, what do you think?

Hi ruru, I´d imagine it´s the same with goose or incubator.  As regards the 32 days, I believe some bigger breed geese go to 32, but mine do 28 or 29, being little ones.

Last year i put 8 african eggs in the incubator and at the same time my african goose was sitting on her 6 eggs and while the gooses eggs hatched on day 30 the ones in the incubator hatch on day 33 and i always found that geese hatch their babies faster then using an incubator (thats nature) :)

Lucy looks maleish :hmm
But what do i know lets see and find out XD
Henny my babies are fine! One is growing faster then the other even tho the little one eats alot more! I love this time of the year

Well that´s interesting. There you go, then, Ruru. From the horse´s mouth.

That must be because the incubators are running a little lower than the goose´s temperature then.

Yeah, well, you guessed a few of my females as being males, so maybe Henny´s is the same, a tomboy.

I do hope she´s a she.

p.s. only thing that I´m thinking is the colour of the down. If it´s an embden and it has pale down, then it could be a boy, as you know, of course, but then I thought that this one is smaller (I think?) and quiet, which doesn´t sound like boy embden.

here is one of my fav. Geese ! She lets me hold her goslings and everything! She is an toulouseXchinese and is 9 years old and is setting on 11 eggs and i let her sit on that many because shes a professional brooder (brooding all her life!) her mate is an greylagXembden so these will be F2 babies !
Last year she hatched 9 babies from 10 eggs but one died and i sold 7 of her babies :)

Aw they're lovely. I dream of one day having more than 1 gosling at a time! Yeah they are a lot darker. She is very light coloured. They are more like a Moosey colour.
