Goslings of 2014 Hatch-a-long

8,

Well I guess that's a good thing. Can't ask for better than one of each to start with. Know any good 'witchy' names?

Liv,

I think it's a given that she is at last half embden as that's what the majority of the flock was. The little white patches are getting more obvious. Just waiting for her big goosey feathers to come through. They have Have several play dates a day but she's too little to leave out. Not to mention she screams like she's being murdered if Im more than 2 feet away! :-D
My Embden gander was a sweet baby actually he was sweet up until he sexually matured then he became a handful.

Does she get along good with Moose?

How about the name Samatha from Bewitched TV show way back yonder. yep showing my age again.

This morning when I went out to feed My gander and goose I have to squat to put the feeder under the feeder house and my gander bit my jacket [he just can't help himself] so I picked him up and carried him around for a while he goes limp as a dish rag once I get him. Such a naughty boy.

Missy has laid # 21 and still no sign of broodiness.

Here are the photos of Peaches and Cream, my African goslings, that I took yesterday. Can anyone verify that they are female? If you think they are, how do you know?

Peaches is in the back and Cream is up front on my leg. Peaches has a shorter neck than Cream. I'm wondering if they are both female. They were sold as sexed goslings, that is why the green mark on their heads.

This is Peaches. She hasn't made up her mind if I'm to be trusted yet.

Here is Cream. Cream is the one who has bald spots on the top of her head and back of her neck. She wouldn't stop posing so all I got were face shots of her. She knows she is a cutie.

Moose likes her but he's bit rough. I think he gets jealous when she's near me. He gets extra snuggly. Lol

I like Samantha but she was a nice witch.

Does he protest to start with? Moose is all, no! Don't pick me up I'm a big boy now...Ooh snuggles! ;)

Maybe Missy wants a really big family?

Ooh they're beautiful. They both look like they're sticking their tongues out! :p

Iain i think if you cross your white african with your brown you will get lavender babies or white with brown feathers here and there but all i know is you need a white gander and a brown goose to get lavender babies
but usually the ganders are only lavender so you need to have mixed breeds to get both sexes lavender :)

Brazil i was thinking chinese too! But the steinbacher looks heavier then the chinese so im still thinking african (not african goose since they give the dewelps so im using african gander ) (i will never cross my african females with other geese since they are too valuble to but maybe if i have enough i will :) ) but i know by fact that there is no female african involved with the steinbacher breed :/

Ok next week thursday i have 8 eggs coming and then we can finally see what a African ganderXEmbden female babies will look like and turn out to be like :D
Its also exciting because the embden eggs are huge so how big will the baby be :/ (btw 4 off the eggs are AfricanXEmbden ) the others are 3 Buff or brown african ganderXbuffAfrican/whitechinese! And the 1 is another B.AfricanXembden/B.Chinese

Starfire i know that peaches is a goose but cream looks like a gander which one is bigger and are they same age

They are the same age, and yea they are the same size, but they are only a week old. Hubby got them from a feed store that says they were sexed by the hatchery. Green mark on the heads meant girl according to the hatchery. But I have noticed that Peaches is more standoffish than Cream. Cream will crawl in my lap just like my chinese gosling Jasper. Cream also has a longer neck than Peaches. I know that hatcheries can make mistakes during vent sexing, so I am concerned that Cream will end up being another gander. I need geese for all the boys I suspect I have, not more ganders!
What makes you think Cream is a gander from the photos? How can you ID sex on a pic? I would like to figure out what sex my bigger 5 goslings are, so any tips are appreciated. Thanks.
