Wow and here i thought I had a holy terror. lol As I see him running with a drake in his mouth. Actually the drake was running with Sam latched on to his tail feathers.

Well, that´s just normal.
Snow has never shown any hints of aggressive behavior before, I can pick him up and he just stays still. He doesn't cuddle, but don't fight either. Maybe, because I removed 2 of their flock not so long ago, he remembered that and thought I was taking his friend? I can't think like a goose so don't know. I just know they have great memories.
Well, either way, he´s young to do that. Watch out!

Geez... you have a quickly growing amount of goslings! Congrats on a good season! I need to candle my African broody's eggs as they could start hatching in the next couple of days. I slipped a couple whites under her, but most are her own. My other production Toulouse broody is about 3 weeks along and has 2 whites and 3 of her own eggs. Then, my neighbor's kid has 3 whites developing in incubator (for me) on day 15. I was letting my whites build a clutch of eggs, but a skunk (most likely) is raiding their nests and so I have no more eggs to even gather right now. That's about it to report in hatching land.

In the meantime, I've had fun learning about my new pigeon, Chloe. I discovered she is a Taganrog Tumbler, a purebred show pigeon from Russia on the rare breeds list. I found a local Taganrog breeder and talked to him today. I learned that in Utah, people do not appreciate or value show pigeons and likely the original owner is not missing her. I also learned that pigeons (unlike geese/ducks) are perfectly ok being solo, so WHEW that I do not have to own more than one pigeon and worry about my numbers multiplying overnight.

Sounds great with the potential goslings!

Serv, congrats to you, too.. I missed your post until i saw utah answer. Nice!

Will I send Mmmmm around? S/he put him/erself between Moose and one of our dogs this morning and wouldn't let him out of the house.

But to be fair said dog is a complete wuss!

I have a med a size dog that is a wuss until she had been nipped on the butt one to many times by our gander, she turned on him 2X thank goodness all she got was a mouth full of feathers but scared the poop out of me. I don't let them be together now unless I am supervising their relationship.

Don't know if anyone's answered this yet but I used to keep a group of Call Ducks with my geese. They got along GREAT til one of the drakes grew up and started chasing my ganders! Here's this itty bitty duck totally terrorizing these enormous geese! It was funny at first but it became a real problem so I sold the little buggar. My ducks have always gotten along great with my chickens too and he was the only one I ever had that was nasty to anything else in the yard. Oh and yes...Flock Raiser is great for ducks...plus treats of course!

Yeah, I am worried about the drake. I think i told you the story of my mom's mallard drake when I was a child. I was terrified of him, but I would go play with the geese all the time, lol. One day the drake decided to attack my mom. We had duck dinner that night. I'll probably give the drake away, my sister may take him as long as she gets a female with him, and I know a guy with a flock of Peking that may want a new drake, or sell him at the animal swap/flea market down the road.

From what I have learned the lady giving the ducks away has only had them for 2 weeks and her and her hubby decided they are too messy and loud for their yard. They are going to stick with chickens. She says no eggs yet, but the drake has been breeding the females, or at least trying to. She isn't sure as she has had them such a short time. Will the ducks still produce eggs without a male? I am not interested in breeding ducks. I just like the way these crested look, especially the black one.

Lol uh oh! You'd better tell Snow to behave if he wants to see next breeding season!

I know! And even though Snow isn't a snugglebug he is usually friendly and will walk up for chest scratches. What he did was very out of character for him. I'll keep an eye on him, spend time trying to reinforce the fact that I am NOT to be bitten! Not even 1 halfhearted bit is allowed, because my hubby is drooling over a goose dinner. And sorry to say, if Cream is a gander as suspected that means I have 3 and hubby will push for me to give him one. :idunno. Hubby also suggests keep the friendliest ganders and eating the least friendly one. Of coarse with Cream being an African and bigger than the Chinese my hubby may change that to lets eat the fat one! :th. ugh. Need coffee to deal with this headache.

On the good side, the divider came out of the pen last night. Everyone is doing ok, a little bulling going on but nothing dangerous, just them establish their pecking order business.
