Goslings of 2014 Hatch-a-long

Day 34 and still no signs of goslings from Maggie. She just hisses like normal. If nothing happens between now and this weekend im pulling her from the nest and candling her eggs.

I also thought, if the eggs are no good seeing if she would adopt my three goslings i kept. They are almost 3 wks old. Im not sure how she would react ive never tried adopting gossies to her. Last year Martha the white chinese adopted three 8 wk old brown chinese, but like people not all geese are the same when raising young. Some are happy to take on babies while others really dont want the ones they have.

Maybe take them out where she can hear them 8 and see how she reacts.

This is my B.AfricanXBuffAfrican\W.Chinese
This lil fella is the most ovious gander i ever had ! I knew he was a boy at day 4 :)

My goodness have they grown, beautiful group there.

Thank you. There are 4 Chinese and 4 Africans, but not all were present in the photo. Raising the geese with the chickens seems to have ensured that the geese are tolerant and even friendly with the chickens even thought they are now in separate coops. The ducks, having been added later are taking a bit longer to be accepted by the geese, but I caught them all napping close to each other in the shade yesterday so that's good. The geese will not share pools though, even with each other, lol. The geese are beautiful, I get lots of smiles when people see them, 1 lady even pulled over to show them to her kids. I am absolutely in love with my babies.

I will try that after i give her a few days. I know im not that far off on when she went broody. I watch my geese too close to be off that much. Maybe her eggs were no good because she only laid 5 before going broody and none had a chance to be fertile. Could be an age problem too, i guessed her at being 3 or 4 when i got her. Who knows?
Ethel is due in 6 days and she was 10 days behind Maggie. Mildred is due June 5th. If i get any goslings from Mildred i will be surprised, up until i sold the Two "problems" she was struggling with keeping her nest. Right now Ethel is my only hope to get more goslings.

Miss lydia the buff gander had a lot of bruises and his chest is pretty badly damaged but will heal i hope ill try and make a pic if i can catch him
