Goslings of 2014 Hatch-a-long

Well i think the problem is lack of grass since theres no grass in the breeding pen so i moved the Africans back to the main flock which was quiet an experience since the buff african fought the Alpha brown African outside the breeding pen and it lasted 1 hour and 13 minutes which is a record for my flock oh and the buff won

I hope no one was wounded seriously.

Not that know of but their wings were dropping after for a while and just a lot of feather loss and the buff was bleeding at the breast area and i still have to check that out

I spiltted up the fight 5 times so i gave up and waited a long time till it was over but its oover now
Thank goodness, 2 of my Muscovy drakes got into it yesterday afternoon I watched to make sure they weren't actually hurting each other mainly sumo wrestling at it's best. We had a drake beat up another so badly years ago that he died, So i always watch closely. How are the gosling today?

OK!
I'll give it a shot. My very young African Geese have been laying for 3 months and they are not even a year old. I got lots (maybe 100) of eggs from 3 girls. I tried incubating (friends do it for me since I have no incubator) and the geese tried brooding, but were a lot more interested in partying with their friends. Needless to say, all efforts were fruitless. Just this last week a girl seems serious and is sitting tight. No playing for her. She only has 5/6 eggs, but I'm hopeful this time.
So, 5 days down and lots of waiting. Fingers crossed!
No luck. No babies. No eggs left.

She kept digging new depressions in the soil and moved her eggs a little at a time. She may have buried a few. One, I know, burst at about 3 weeks. The last egg in the nest was a dud. Broken shell was found with no evidence of being fertile. The goose was a good brooder and sat tight till the last egg. She is now with the flock after abandoning her nest.
My geese are molting and have quit laying about a month ago. I will have to wait till next year to see if we will have some goslings. The geese will be more mature. I believe they were too young when they started mating and laying at 8 months or younger, for a couple.
Better luck next year.

From all I've read it's better second year, along time to wait but things will be better all round. Sorry for the disappointment though.

Disappointing. But fairly normal. I have my 8-month-olds still with their parents, still behaving like babies in that they won´t be separated from their parents. Little skirmishes between some of the males, but nothing else. As I said, still babies. I don´t let my first-year geese sit, it seems a waste of time. Second-year geese are different. Hope you have success next year.
