Goslings of 2014 Hatch-a-long

It´s certainly a strange colour. It did cross my mind. It has almost silvery fluff on the yellow. wouldn´t it be funny if it really was a lavender! I´ll take more pics tomorrow if I have time.
The Pilgrims are due next weekend, and the other 'Normandy' type goose has 5 eggs due the weekend after that.

I asked the woman who I bought them from why she was asking more for her ganders than the geese, and she said that her females breed more females than males, so could well be that there are more females in this batch.
I don´t see any saddlebacks yet, though. I´m not sure about this, but could be that the spot gene is submissive to the dilute gene, if, indeed these are auto-sexing. I´ll have to read up about it. Anyway, time will tell.
There´s one more egg to go to make it 100% hatch, that´d be good!
Has the last egg hatched yet? How many eggs do the Pilgrim have?

Precious!! Congrats on a great first hatch of the season!!
We said we´d keep it ticking along... should be some about to arrive in Australia, too, eh?
Congrats livin on the first hatch of the season!!!!

Thanks, Ruru. They already look too big to get back into their shells! The goose is doing well. when the two geese first arrived, they were like my Pilgrims...so scared. But, once the goslings arrive, they learn that I won´t do any harm. I haven´t touched any yet, I just want her to get confidence in me, but once they´re running around, I´ll be picking themup. I get really close to her nest and talk to them all. Slowly she relaxes and lets the goslings out from underneath her. Funny, they fight to get out from under those wings!

I´ve been to visit them today (of course!

) and can still only see the six in there, but it´s a cold day, and they´re keeping close to mom. She´s shifting as if she has somethingm else going on under her, but I´ll have to wait untiol the sun warms it up a bit. At the moment, it´s cloudy and a bit rainy, which we need amyway, and the goslings are perfectly fine where they are. So I´ll leave well alone for now.

This goose looks to be Normandy-type, she laid 7 eggs. The other one like her laid 5.
My pilgrims normally lay from 6 to 8 eggs.

Guess it's not the end of season here. When feeding last night, I heard peeping coming from my white scovy's nest. I'll be ******, but my scovy managed to finally hatch herself a baby (after many failed attempts for the last 1.5 years).

I couldn't get a good look at it as we didn't want to disturb any other eggs that may be hatching.... but it looks like another pure white hinny baby. Hopefully I'll get a better look and some pictures today. While we do not need to expand our flock numbers, we are pleased that our white scovy has a baby to raise. We also have two other scovy girls that would be hatching now (assuming eggs are fertile) and our Cayuga duck just went broody. I guess duck hatching season is nearly year round at our place.

Sounds like it J, thank goodness you have a large piece of property. How the house coming along?

Well here's my 2 at 3 months old either they are right in my face or have their backs turned.

Love them to pieces. I think we need to start a thread for the teenagers now.

It feels wonderful to finally own our 9 acre piece of heaven and our house is coming along slowly but surely. We meet with the county in the morning to start the permit process while obtaining bids for the site prep. Hope to break ground in a few weeks.
