Goslings of 2014 Hatch-a-long

I'm setting my very 1st batch of goose eggs tonight! They are Cotton Patch Geese, all shipped. No air cells completely detached but some are a bit wiggly. Hope I get this right!

Good luck!! xx

I'm on my 2nd batch of geese/shipped eggs. I've started off with mine fat end up in egg boxes at a slight angle. I still put an 'X' 'O' on either side and rotate them. That seems to work so far. With the first batch I was able to lie them flat and let the egg turner take over after a couple of weeks.

Hope some of that's useful! :)

I just got a batch of sebbie eggs in the mail and this is going to be my first time incubating geese so I have a couple questions. They might be silly, but getting answers will ease my mind, and I figure you all have experience so you're the best people to ask! Firstly I was wondering whether it would be best to incubate them vertically or horizontally being that they are shipped. All the air cells are still attached but a couple look a little wonky. The other question has to do with misting and cooling - do you mist the eggs while they are cooling, or after right before they go back in the incubator? And thirdly, I usually dry hatch with humidity between 35-40%. Will this work okay with the geese? Thanks in advance for any advice!

Read the "goose incubation and hatching guide" by Pete, it´s very good and informative.

Pyxis Agreed to read a guide, we incubate on the side for ours and that does the best for our set up. Depending on the kind of stryofoam you have (the height of it you may want to buy a goose ring or an extender to make it tall enough for the lock down time.

Depending on the kind of stryofoam you have...
Just wanted to post this while it's being mentioned. I started a thread on it recently, but WITHIN THE LAST MONTH, LG changed their housing design, and it now fits goose eggs very easily. It ONLY applies to LG incubators sold within the last month though.

no eggs yet here either ;(
Patience My dear.

My styro foam bators are little giant and they are tall never had a problem with either of them. One is 2 yrs old the other is 15 yrs old, probably hatched close to 2500+ guineas and about 600 chicks over those 15 yrs. Last year i had the oldest one as my hatcher so add geese and ducks to that total. I have to say it has surprised me with its endurance.

But with a turner, do the goose eggs still fit?

Actually I have a brinsea :) i also have a really big homemade cooler incubator, so luckily space won't be a problem. I did read the guide, and it was really good info. I guess I'll go ahead and incubate on their sides. It did have info about the misting, but it didn't say whether to do it during cooling or right after, unless I missed that part, and I might have!
