Goslings of 2014 Hatch-a-long

That's a lot of eggs!! I gave up trying to count how many eggs I get other than my breeder dewlaps, but if I had to guess, I'd say close to 100 by now.

So here's some pics for round 2 of "Who's my daddy?" (Where's Maury when you need him?)

Mom is Chinese/Embden. Dad could be: Embden, Chinese/Embden, Toulouse, Toulouse/chinese, or Sebastopol/Tufted Roman.

Also curious as to whether anyone has an educated guess as to gender? Thanks!

What a pretty little gosling!
Not necessarily, may well depend on the type of grass. Native grasses are probably better than lawn style grass, and lawns like kikuya can cause all types of problems.
Well that´s interesting. Of course, I have no idea what serv´s friend has there, but we have native grasses here, but I still had problems, so maybe the dry season theory is valid.
When I returned home this afternoon, my buff broody was off her nest so I raced over and was able to check half of the eggs before she noticed. They were all duds. So, no surprise goslings on the way from that nest. Poor girl will be disappointed.
What a shame! Can you take a couple from someone else´s nest for her?

Aww look they have new friends. :love

Yes, my niece's two pekin ducklings. The ducklings were in with cornish rocks. When the ducklings got in the water dish, the cornish rocks did too. But chick down doesn't repel water like duck down.

But when you put the ducks in the little pool, they ran up the ramp and jumped down to be back with the chicks for company.

Now everyone will be fine in the water with each other, and it's likely they'll want to stay in it for a bit! Plus the goslings taught the ducklings to follow and trust me, which is good, because they were hard to catch when they jumped out of the pool, lol!

LB, I could.... but I probably won't. She's already been on her nest for 10 days and is a young yearling. She'll get over it after she sits for the duration. There's always next year!

There is a lady here who does ornaments, thats where i got the idea to do mine. She wants to buy all eggs that i dont use. I hope she dont think that im going to blow them all out because if so the price will go up, i almost lost a lung cleaning out the few i did last fall.

Im finally in the game, just set 18 eggs(not many more would fit) I took the biggest and the colored eggs, i didnt set any from the pied girls, i know that my brown chinese gander has them in his harem(not much color there) so the eggs are Ethel, Stormy, Martha, Maggie and some random large eggs that i picked for a mystery hatch, which are probably Maggie and Ethels that came after the color wore off and should be Tufted Roman x Toulouse crosses.
Here is Maggie's egg(tufted roman) with a large chicken egg.
