Goslings of 2014 Hatch-a-long

I've got a good one!
Came home from work last night and OH said he had something to show me (no not that!)

He held his phone up to show me a Web page for diapers for geese!! Then he said, "for moose". I just about fell over with shock then promptly guffawed!

That's something I would do and be told I was being ridiculous but when he suggests it its ok!

DHs are something else when it comes to the babies

How many of you guys make the safety hole in the egg that Pete talks about in his guide? Wondering if I should make a little hole for my internally pipped baby. It talks to me if I talk near the egg

I only do if it's getting close to the 24hour mark after the internal pip... then I worry about them running out of air. Mostly they do it all on their own.

Haha yeah! Just be prepared for your route to take twice as long!

More than that, lol!

They only give us about 3-4 seconds for each box. That's not NEARLY enough time for everyone to meet the goose, pet the goose, get all of their questions answered, and say bye bye to the goose.

And with the big truck leaving the office for the sort facility at 5:30pm every day, there's no way I'd finish the route! HAHA!

I do not make a hole as it exposes membrane prematurely to dry air.

I would say a bit of both! He can't stomach poop. Just talking about it makes him wretch! Lol I'm not sure you could get them here. I may have to make him one!

Moose came running in earlier and sat by the fire because it was raining. He's not normal!
Haha, he thinks he´s a dog! Somewhere on these threads there are instructions to make a diaper, but I just can´t remember where I saw them.

Get ahold of kukupecpec. She makes diapers and I think she has a BYC discount. Super friendly and helpful, too!

Woke up this morning to 4.5 ducks and 2 turkey poults hatched. Still no progress with the goose egg. Today is day 31.

But, the half duck that was out made my morning! I heard muffled peeping coming from the incubator, a kind I had never heard before. I went to check the window and found an egg, zipped around the narrow end (the wrong end), with a wet butt and 2 wings sticking out and flapping, trying to push its way backward out of a too small hole. If I had been thinking straight, I would have gone and grabbed the camera. But because of the frantic peeping and flapping, I just quickly rushed in to free the backward tyke, who came out just fine.

My dad once asked me whether any babies are hatched breech. I chuckled at him a little and said, "No. Because they peck out with the beaks, they always come out head-first." Well, now I'd like to change my answer.
