Goslings of 2014 Hatch-a-long

You COULD always cheat the waiting game, and just get them DNA-sexed once their feathers come in. It just takes a few plucks of their chest feathers, and I think about 12-19 dollars per bird, depending on which company you go with.
That´s one way I hadn´t thought about...nice one! I don´t believe they´d do it here, but maybe Scotland does.....Nice and easy..

Adorable pictures of all the new goslings! Congrats on successful hatching!!

Stefanfarms, congrats on developing eggs from my girls! I can't wait to see pictures of them when they hatch!! I'll probably be as excited as you for the white Africans!

As luck would have it, I was able to catch my African broody this afternoon off her nest, so I did a quick candle. I didn't see anything promising from the three eggs I gave her, but discovered she laid quite a few more eggs of her own and much to my surprise (she is mated to a fairly old gander), she has one egg spider on day 5-ish and a possible day 4-ish looking egg.

Since I only have one other trio of eggs under another broody, I'm not too optimistic about getting white goslings from eggs set under my girls. So, I'm getting super itchy to fire up my bator, especially since one of my white girls is pretty sick with reproductive issues and I'm not sure she will make it.

Here is hoping sick turns to healthy, and just for extra measure fire up the bator. Better safe than sorry and if you hatch too many I'm sure someone would be moren happy to take a few off your hands.

Thanks, Stefan! She seems to be pulling through a little this evening, but this is the 2nd time she has had a soft egg break inside of her in the past four days. My vet is having me yank her (and mate) from pasture in the morning and move her to another yard to hopefully stop her laying cycle. My gander is so devoted to her, it would be sad for him to lose her.

Chick, huh? That term took off a long time ago.

I candled my eggs. Its way early but i wanted to see whats going on. 5 days and 19 eggs, only 8 has anything noticeable. None were Stormys or Ethels. Out of the 8, 5 looked like blood rings. Like i said its still early so i will give them until day 10 because this early in not real sure. Hoping that some are just slow. Otherwise im :hit

Huh! I wish it was that cheep! ;-) best price I could find was £15 per bird. So what's that? $25? Then they go up from £25-45. :th I could start a new flock of geese for that. Suddenly I feel more patient!
