With my auto-sexing (I can tell you this, because I knew if they were boys or girls, although I didn´t particularly take any notice a the time) my males were easier to get hold of, first to the feed pot, far bolder. I´d pick them all up, (they were with their mum) but the last ones to come near were always the little females. The others, mixed-breeds, I can´t say, as I didn´t have any idea at the time whether they were boys or girls, other than just a hunch.....the hunch was pretty well right, too. So I´m for Lucy being a girl...2 points coming to me, serv, i´m sure!I'm just impatient with these things. I know every goose is going to be different anyway regardless of sex and having them a month apart I can't really compare them properly yet.
But Moose has been as bold as brass from day one, Lucy has been skittish, jumps at quick hand movements and wriggles when picked up/put down (likes to snuggle under my jumper though). She's also a quick learner. Not solid proof I know but it's all I have for now.![]()
Hope she pulls out of it JAdorable pictures of all the new goslings! Congrats on successful hatching!!
Stefanfarms, congrats on developing eggs from my girls! I can't wait to see pictures of them when they hatch!! I'll probably be as excited as you for the white Africans!
As luck would have it, I was able to catch my African broody this afternoon off her nest, so I did a quick candle. I didn't see anything promising from the three eggs I gave her, but discovered she laid quite a few more eggs of her own and much to my surprise (she is mated to a fairly old gander), she has one egg spider on day 5-ish and a possible day 4-ish looking egg.
Since I only have one other trio of eggs under another broody, I'm not too optimistic about getting white goslings from eggs set under my girls. So, I'm getting super itchy to fire up my bator, especially since one of my white girls is pretty sick with reproductive issues and I'm not sure she will make it.![]()
I candled my eggs. Its way early but i wanted to see whats going on. 5 days and 19 eggs, only 8 has anything noticeable. None were Stormys or Ethels. Out of the 8, 5 looked like blood rings. Like i said its still early so i will give them until day 10 because this early in not real sure. Hoping that some are just slow. Otherwise im![]()
Wow, aren´t they dark! Yeah, that´s a boy!
Hmm. I'd say they were both male. I've got a feeling!![]()
