Goslings of 2014 Hatch-a-long

:love Ooh sweeet! Their heads are so fine. Moose has a great big wedge on top of his neck!

I pushed her off and candled them all. 3 had what looked like obvious growth so i left them and took the rest. I'll be moving her tomorrow. The nest is filthy, full of cracked eggs! :sick
I don't have anywhere to put her tonight. Will have to clear out the broody coop!

My handsome boys are Chinese and very sweet. I adore them! Their faces are so expressive for birds! I didn't think they could have a range of facial expressions but they do!

Good luck with your broody hen!

Is that typical of Chinese temperament? Not knowing geese well yet I'm sticking to toulouse because they're supposed to be placid natured.

And thank you! :) x

Chinese are bolder and more assertive than other breeds. Some have a reputation for being devils. But a Chinese handraised as a gosling, will form attachments to its owner like any other goose. During breeding season the ganders will be difficult to handle, but so are ganders of other breeds during that time. I have met Chinese geese that were horribly mean, and others that were very sweet and snugly. It has a lot to do with how they are raised and treated. But yes, Chinese are more prone to being mean and aggressive.

They sound nice but I won't risk ending up with an aggressive one and upsetting Moose :)

They are definitely not for everyone. On top of their temperament, they are Very vocal and loud. This makes excellent alarm animals, but can annoy the neighbors.

Do your geese stay up later than the chickens? My 2 were out at dusk. The chickens started going to bed hours ago!

Speaking of which, I need to go and do a head count. I think I'm missing 2 hens! It worries me how many eggs they're sitting on between them!

My geese tend to wander about on-and-off all night if they can see, like on a full moon...I can see the white ones.

Oh, yummy! So will you let her hatch out the chicks too? And what happened to the other hen? Did you find her?
