Can geese and chickens get ticks? My outside Patches, just came home with a tick on her. I removed it and know we don't have ticks in our yard. But if my cats bring them in can the birds get them? How can I prevent that?

Yes they can get ticks. You treat it mostly the same as you would mites - Diatomaceous Earth. But if you want to do more, I HAVE given my chickens a bath in kitten flea and tick shampoo. And I've sprayed the yard with Malathion (waited for it to dry before letting the chickens near it again). Although with geese it would have to be different, because they actually eat the grass that the Malathion covers. You could try Sevin Dust instead.

Thanks, I will keep a very close eye on my flock to ensure they don't get ticks or other parasite. I check the cat weekly, but can probably check her more often as well.

I got a big surprise today.... my 1st broody scovy came off her nest today with 3 babies. Between the geese, the cats, and the cold weather we are having, hubby and I quickly scooped momma and her babies up and brought them inside. Now they are warm and dry and my pigeon has friends to hang out with.

Well, now Utah.. that looks like Bolshy, who, when she was being a pain, belonged to hubby...same duck? So, now she´s got some dear little fluffy things, she´s yours?

Sometimes Moose looks like a girl, sometimes a boy. But she behaves like a girl. Mmmm now looks like a boy and behaves like a boy.
At Moose´s age I just couldn´t tell with any of mine that weren´t auto-sexing, but now at 6-7 months I have no doubt that I have 3 males and 8 females.

This is Bolshy's hatchmate/sister who we affectionately call Weirdo after she kept trying to mate with my buff dewlap gander and then built her nest under our house's front door landing, well beyond our reach. Bolshy is only a week or two into cooking her eggs on her own nest.

Technically speaking, I bought Bolshy and Weirdo last July when they were a few days old to brood with a solo late buff dewlap gosling. But my husband claims that all ducks are "his" and all geese are "mine" with a few exceptions here and there.
