Goslings of 2014 Hatch-a-long

Funny.  Not everyone´s quite as attentive to their birds as we are!  (would "obsessed" be too much?)  They must have been laying for her too.
Female ducks and geese mount other females.

She thought it was the chickens laying, she is brand new to poultry raising of any kind. Her hens can only be a month older than mine, I don't think any of them are laying yet. And Daisy laid yesterday as I was there checking them over and preparing to load them in crates for the drive home. The lady kept hoping her leghorn was laying, it turns out the small chicken egg was really a small duck egg from Ebony!

And call me obsessed if you will, but I am usually the first person to say something is wrong with that animal. Because I pay attention to their normal habits and routines I notice things that are off or different. Helps me keep everyone healthy!

Same as here, I think!  Folks around here call my geese "patos"...means ducks!!!!
And congrats on your successful hatches. :thumbsup

Sometimes i have to catch myself and not call people ignorant lol and remind myself that not everyone is as observant as others. I just get tired of explaining things. Like "No, not all horses are race horses"

"No, ive never been a jockey"

"No those are geese not large chickens"

"No those are guineas not Turkeys"

"No they do NOT bleach the eggs white at the store before before selling them"

My favorite (which I've actually had to say)... "Yes, you can eat the eggs that chickens lay"

2 of my neighbors told me my new geese were pretty, especially the black one. And I'm just like uh huh. Nod and smile, just nod and smile.

Forgive me, I have sorta kept up lately, but keep getting everyone confused with each other...

What exactly do you have out there that they are calling a BLACK goose??

I picked up 5 ducks yesterday, 3 white crested females, 1 black crested female, and 1 Pekin male. And I have 2 white Chinese geese in the yard (some baby Chinese and African too but they are still downy). All were in the front yard when I was told my new geese were pretty. :gig. We're the necks not a dead give away? Or the fact that the ducks were quacking?
