Goslings of 2014 Hatch-a-long

Well I hate raccoons! They broke in and killed 6 of the 8 goslings! Trap is set! None of the eggs in the incubator hatched! All dead. My second goose is probably not going to hatch anything. She is not as serious as my other one. Only 2 goslings this season for me.

I am having the same kind of week! I lost 5 baby ducklings, and one turkey poult, as well as a full grown Egyptian goose (one of only 2 I had). My brother reports it was a crow one time, and a hawk another time, and I'm not even sure what could have gotten the Egyptian, but I doubt it was a raptor. Those guys are the most alert things I have. Now my Egyptian's brother just wanders around lost all the time. Poor, poor guy! There are 2 more poults in the yard with their mama, who fought the hawk valiantly, but was not able to keep him from stealing the one poult. Makes me so mad!

Caught Maggie off the nest today, she was so irritated that i couldnt get close to the nest to candle but i did see eggs, no goslings yet and i couldnt tell if any had pipped. It has been 35 days now so im pretty sure nothing is going to hatch. Looks like operation gosling adoption is in the future. Otherwise i believe she will try to steal Ethels goslings which are due this Sunday.

Might be best to introduce her to her new babies soon.

Oh Flockman, I am so sorry! I know how excited you were to have goslings this year.
