Crossing the Road
I would get hatching eggs (but that's just me) or maybe get supplements for them. I think that would be the sensible thing to do

Agreed.your chickens NEED food, water, and shelter.
beyond that, whatever you buy them isn’t a necessity
you can spend that $50 on things that will make taking care of your chickens more convenient for you. a heated waterer is great if you experience freezing temperatures.
otherwise, $50 will feed my birds for 3 months. that’s the route i’d go.
You want to get something special for your chickens? Um...let's see......a groovy new nest box might just be the thing. Or your gals might appreciate one of them fancy dust bathing contraptions with clean sand to roll around in. Or you could buy one of them them things that hold a head of lettuce or other greens and you hang it so the hens bat it around for entertainment. Of course, if your chickens are like mine, just putting down an empty feed bag seems to be the best thing ever: they roll around on that thing like a cat with a catnip toy.....go figure.
I like this! Good for human and chickens. You could buy yourself some chicken shoes (gardening shoes/boots) to wear when you go to the coop.
