Got a fox outside the hen house

A fox just killed 4 of my chickens this morning...I'm devastated,I raised my flock from eggs!! The fox managed to get into the front fence (it's literally like Fort Knox) It dug under the door... I'm just digging a foot around the entire coop and pouring concrete in.

A bag of stone , a bag of concrete and tamper it down works well

Small stone works well. You can use number2 stone, or whatever you feel.. just tamper it down. In a few days it’s dry and rock solid

Thank you soooo much!! How far should the trench be dug down? I was thinking a foot but we have foxes and minx ,just wondering how far they'll dig before they give up

I dont support killing the fox (at the end of the day,they're only wild animals trying to feed their young)I'm just going to make their efforts harder at getting at my flock).
I do understand your frustration, waking up in the morning and seeing many of your flock killed,first you mourn,then the anger sets in.
You can't be angry at a wild animal,they are just doing what nature intended them to do.I've gone through every emotion,It's not their fault.

A foot down is great! Or you can frame a 2x6 - 1 1/2 to 2 feet away from run and fill it in ( if you don’t want to dig by hand) up to you. If they can’t dig... they give up and look for another way in

A friend of mine lost over 20 chickens to a fox. All afternoon kills. He kept them in a month. I just raised him 25 young ones and the fox (after a month) killed 4 more. All on trail cam.... now the fox is getting a dose of lead. No choice

But some would suggest we let them eat our flock because they were here "first". Nope. Sorry. I HAVE the right to protect my animals.

If that poster REALLY belivbe in that, they would let them free range 100% of the time. No coop, no run, nothing. Whatever losses we're incurred we're "ment to be".. ya right...

I'm an animal lover (wild animals are only doing what they're meant to do) it's not personal,though I'm grieving for the loss of my chickens, I can't hurt a wild animal whom is only doing what it was meant to do,,I think killing a wild animal doesn't stop a problem,it's just killing a wild animal,killing the fox won't bring my chickens back,I can't bring a wild fox,wolf,mink back from extinction.
I'll do everything I can to keep my chickens safe though,I appreciate all your advice and I'm going to build a fortress!!! Lol...thank you!!

You either keep your birds in or deal with your fox problem .. your choice
