Got a fox outside the hen house

I'm an animal lover (wild animals are only doing what they're meant to do) it's not personal, though I'm grieving for the loss of my chickens, I can't hurt a wild animal whom is only doing what it was meant to do,,I think killing a wild animal doesn't stop a problem,it's just killing a wild animal, killing the fox won't bring my chickens back,I can't bring a wild fox, wolf, mink back from extinction.
I'll do everything I can to keep my chickens safe though,I appreciate all your advice and I'm going to build a fortress!!! Lol...thank you!!

As am I. The difference is I'm not opposed to taking my own food. But I'll do everything possible to save the same species from a untimely or cruel death. ( Your idea of cruel, is obviously different than mine")....

I'm sure your will to let the rest of your flock become dinner, because "It's" what's right. Sorry, but not on my watch. At some point, you will have to decide weather feeding the local predators, out ways keeping them fed via your expense.

You're analogy is untrue, most of my flock I've raised from eggs,I took them on car rides, they followed me everywhere, I've loved them from the second they were born...do I hate that fox who killed my babies?? Yes I do,can I hate a wild animal who doesn't think ,feel like a human ?? I can't equate human feelings unto a wild animal.. I've never lived outside my entire life,I've never had to hunt for my food, wild is wild.

So, . Your except a wild animal.to have human feelings??? Sorry, but not possible, no matter how hard you think it " should". There's only drive It has... to live.... If living involves eating your chickens, inviting it into your "space" and expressing your displeasure isn't going to help.

I never said a wild animal has human feelings.. I've been professing that wild animals do not not possess human emotions and humans are only projecting their emotions on to wild animals!! Thus, the human need to protect "their family " be them humans,birds,dogs,cats...it's instinctual to protect ones family, I was only suggesting that wild animals have the same instincts, albeit heightened, due to their living in the wild, you cannot fault a wild animal for doing what nature intended it to do.

Ok, so a simple question. Yes or no......

Does a wild animal have more rights to eat your animals/flock then you do to protect that same animal from eating your animals/flock????

If you truly believe your flock is at the mercy of mother nature, be prepared to supply a endless supply of chickens to feed the helpless.

It's a loaded question.. if you and I have done everything to protect "our flock" and that fox, wolf, bear, weasel, mink still gets in...they kill half our flock...the facts are, your flock will always be a tempting target in you're yard... it's not a yes or no answer.. it's a multiple choice question, you can't pinpoint the various scenarios or estimate the ferocity of any predator, you can't presume to know the defenses of ones coop structure, you won't attain variables because your coop management differs.
