got a free peafowl egg....with conditions

well. the first one was due to hatch this coming sunday. it hatced this past thursday?? it's doing great so far. since he brought me the first one, he brought six more, so i have seven of them now. all are looking great so far too. are they 28 days incubation or 25? did this first one just hatch early? my temp is running at 101 still air. i did have to help the first one out. his shell was like concrete. i chipped away at it and then let him finish it off thursday evening. he had the air cell along the length of the egg though, so that may have been the problem. anyway, he's running around my brooder now and drinking. i havn't seen him eat yet though. my neighbor will be picking him up in a day or two.

Mine hatch on the 25 or 26 day.. From what I hear the people in the southern states hatch around 25 days and the northerners hatch around 28 days.

Congrats on baby chicks!!

I have 3 eggs that hatched in 14 days. Our peafowl are free range, so I'm not exactly sure how long the eggs were set before she gave up and led me to them. 2 are fine and healthy, but one is having some problems. It seems he pipped way too early.

I have found that Bator time can sometimes vary, depending on how good the momma is at setting them before they're discovered.
