Got eggs!

I was turning over the bedding when I felt something round. It's eggs! I have no clue when they started or how many more there might be, but at least one of my girls is laying. Love how speckled they are, and how the speckles are more reflective than the rest of the shell. I hope after culling two more roos the rest of the girls will feel safe enough to lay too.

Congratulations! And to the birds!

There was a delay of three weeks before my first one started to lay and my last one (little Silver the runt). I thought Silver was a boy because she crowed like a roo KOA - KAAA!!! (no confusion)

Please forgive me but I want to make sure the second roo has no idea what happened to the first one. I feel so sorry for the little things...

I like that too. They look nothing like the eggs the birds came from. I wonder if the spots will get bigger and merge as she grows, or if she'll always be a speckle-y layer.

Got one more. Definitely the same hen (unless they all turn out this way for some reason), three very clean eggs so far. She's been laying them in this little dug-out nest under a curved piece of bark. Now I'm a bit worried there are more I'm not seeing. Just gonna have to be more thorough when I turn stuff over.

They tend to bury them sometimes lol I have to dig through the bedding as well. I don’t know what’s laying what but I tend to get similar patterned eggs from the same hens. I mean like I have one girl that lays the kind with a chalky outside blue tinge and the others have huge spots one lays with smaller spots... sometimes all 5 lay in exact same spot nice and neat for me!

I can tell who laid what by the pattern. Although I haven’t figured out which hen lays which lol.
I wonder if you could breed for egg shell pattern...
