okay, so first off, does anyone know what this last chick is? Its stripy. i know thats not much help because it can be just about a million things. I have four of thm, and the are smaller than the others and have long legs. I'm guessing some sort of game or dutch chick. I know its a horrible picture for identifying it, but its all i have right at the moment.

And second..has anyone heard of the chicks being stressed out and dieing? The chicks were delayed, so they sat on a truck for two days in the cold. A lot have died, and im fighting with another just now. 50% death rate so far... Any help? The stressed thing is all the guy at the hatchery said about it. But he was a reallly cool dude, at Ideal. He said most the people's chicks from that shipment were doing poorly. They are shipping another batch free of charge wednesday. Hopefully no delays.

I do to, and thanks. My dad is way upset about it. he got them as a birthday present for me, and now that theyre dying he thinks he is the one to blame. I keep telling him its nothis fault and it could happen to anyone.

i hope your next batch of babies does better.

Yes, the stress of shipping (usually extreme temps and/or extended shipping times) can definitely cause high chick mortality. If you ordered from a hatchery and they mailed the chicks to you, contact them right away and notify them of the losses you have had. Most hatcheries will ship new ones to replace the ones that you lost.

I'm sorry you lost some of your babies! Keep everyone posted on what happens.

Thanks everyone. The hatchery is realy sorry, and theyre sending more on monday, i think. i'm giving them a litte pedia lite, because it worked well on some puppies we had once. so far i dont see much or a difference. Is the pedialite god or bad? The rest seem to be doing okay, except a little white silkie has started showing the signs of things going down hill. its just laying down and not eating or drinking until i get it up and moving around, and even then he hakes a couple bites then goes back to laying about. If he gets much worse i'll seperate him too.

when you got them, did you give them warm sugar water? did you get them directly into a really warm, maybe 90 degree brooder. how are they acting in the brooder? bunching up? where? did you dip each ones beak in the water quicly, to show them whrer the water is.
its good you contacted the hatchery. im glad they are shipping you more. how many were dead when you got them. how many and how soon did they begin to die?
i hope everything goes well with the next batch.
