Kids??? Actually that's a great idea if it had GPS- we could find more stolen kids. Good thinking, Wildsky

I'm sure some DW's would love to put a GPS chip in some DH's...

I would LOVE that!!!!!!!!!!!

I think the ID chip for GOLDFISH is a great idea. Mine often disappear & when I ask the wife if she saw them, she always denies it.

I bet if I scanned her belly, I would find out what happened to them...

OMG, I work for a vet and have never microchiped a chicken. The thought is giving me a good laugh, but what a great idea. I'll be sure to tell the staff tomorrow.

I would prefer not to know where DH goes, he goes to walmart so much that the GPS would burn out.

Shelters in my area all scan for chips when animals come in, as well.

In parrots, chips can prove ownership of confiscated birds. There have been cases where people were positive that a recovered bird was theirs, but they couldn't prove it to the police. A lot of people get their parrots DNA checked to determine it's sex. Now there's an option to have the company keep a bird's DNA on file, to have proof of identity, as well. A chip is a lot faster, though.

* Pain in the butt if/when you transfer ownership. My DB found a stray dog that had been chipped. . . Owners of record had given the dog away YEARS before and had rec'd at least 3 calls a year about her since (according to them). She was a runner, apparently.

Pain in the butt in general, if you ask me. I guess if I ever get a high dollar animal I might consider it. I'd much rather get one for myself . . . I HATE carrying around an ID, and usually leave it at home in disgust because I refuse to carry a purse and can't stand the feel of things in my pockets. It would be much more pleasant to just have something inserted into my neck that people can scan . . . though I may revise my feelings on that if I ever decide to enter the world of illegal activities . . .
