You can buy livestock chips (same as dog chips, just don't come with the tags, etc) much cheaper than having your vet do it. I have chipped all my dogs and when I was breeding, chipped all the pups. It has been 7-8 years but it used to be like $8 a chip in increments of 5 through Avid. It comes with instructions of how to insert them and is really easy to do.
