Got my eggs!!!! day 21 is here! 17 out -COMPLETE -PICS added

Ok, I would say final count but.....
We have have 17 chickies - 4 eggs. No rocking, no pipping, last night was the last hatch. I decided to candle the remaining eggs. No movement. I decided to open a small hole in the air cell of one. It's still alive! I dampened a paper towel to cover the hole, every time I moisten it, I check and see small movement. I didn't dare touch the other 3, so now we wait. I guess this teaches me to not be in too much of a hurry to clean my bator

Well that's it, I candled them again, and nothing. I decided to open the rest to confirm. 2 died a couple days ago and one poor white silkie was too big. It couldn't move enough to pip and suffocated

. I was trying to remember if that it the one I heard peep, but figured I felt bad enough. The one I opened earlier is still alive for now, I hope it pips soon, I'm going insane

. I will feel better once it breaks the membrane and starts breathing

I've been known to help them out at this point. Some do, some don't. I just peel away enough of the membrane and shell to let the little guy breath and wait. If a long time goes by, I just peel almost the whole shell away but be careful not to take the shell completely off in case he's still attached to it. I've save many a baby chick this way but also lost a few. It's a bummer when they die in the shell because they can't get out.

Have to tell you this one story. Once, I had an egg with cheeping coming out of it when all the others had hatched 3 days earlier. It never pipped so I performed a "caesarean" and it lived! It was smaller than the others because it "hatched" 3 days late. Also, I did the same thing another time and the poor thing didn't move. It was at school and I had to go home, of course. The next day, when I went in, I was sure I'd find it dead but it was all fluffed up and walking around, just fine!

There is just one left in the bator. It shows no indication of even wanting to get out. I would pull the membrane back but there is a lot of blood in the veins and to me that spells trouble. I had such a good hatch up till now

still not too bad. 23 went into the hatcher and I have 17(hopefully 18) chicks. I will cross my fingers an hope this one comes out soon
