I have been reading BYC for a couple of months and preparing to get a few chickens to raise for eggs. The coop is finally finished (mostly), and I got my first chickens today. I bought three black star and one red star pullet (13-14 wks old) from someone I found on Craigslist. She offered me another chicken - said that it is the same age as the others, but she had no idea what it is. She thought probably Ameracauna, because the face is somewhat tufted, but it is MUCH larger than the other girls. I am posting a pic of just her, as well as one of her with the other girls for size reference. Since I brought her home, I realized how much larger she really is, and after watching her with the others, I am also wondering if she is a really a he. I am also guessing that she is part Ameracauna, but is it normal for them to be so much larger than the black/red stars? Opinions please!

Thanks everyone. Unfortunately, that's what I was thinking too, but I am far from an expert. I really didn't want a rooster right now, but my daughter has also declared it her favorite chicken, so he will probably be around for awhile.

Isn't it nice to get validation here? I mean, you look at your bird, and you're pretty sure, but then you look again, and maybe not...........then post pics and find out you were right!
