Got our ducklings!

The wife has been stocking up on frozen peas, sounds like it's time to try some.

I am still amazed at how fast they grow! The 5 are doing great, getting more and more adventuresome outside. Grandkids go home today, it's been a fun week of girls everywhere. I now know who Katy Perry is.....

I think a heart attack could be what happened. They were 6 days old and she went quick.

The gang of five are growing like weeds - I truly wasn't prepared for how fast they grow. I thought I was prepped and ready for the first month. They outgrew me in a week & half.

They now spend most of the day outdoors & sleep inside at night. Avery spent the nite with us, she had to get in with them this morning....

That is so cute! I haven't had any grandchildren that could come in and love them, so our ducks aren't nearly as calm when someone comes close. *sigh* Oh well, these are gonna be working livestock anyway, not pets... so I guess it really doesn't matter too much. I was able to coax a couple of the braver ones to eat from my hand this morning though.

Quote: How did you make the thing that the water is sitting on? I could use that for my ducklings that are coming in on the 21st.

I cut out the middle of a lid on a 'tupperware' container - 1/4" hardware cloth held down with duct tape (my grand daughters laugh every time I use 'duck tape'). Search for water stations on the forums here for several ideas. Cuts down on the mess. We switched to a 1/2 gallon jug with holes in the top after about two weeks to hold the water. Wired it to the hardware cloth. Even less mess and waste. All ideas I got from here.

Knowing what I know now (after our first time) - I would go with a bigger brooder & water station. They grow fast!

a picture is worth a thousand words -

sitting with me on the patio this morning, enjoying our coffee. I think they just want to crap on my toes!
