Gourd/Squash/Pumpkin Seed Swap

I would look for a butternut soup that has cilantro and just use pumpkin

I have seeds from the atlantic giants that Stevenson sent in for the spring swap and sugar pie pumpkin seeds too

PS - does anyone have a recipe for a pumpkin soup that isn't sweet and doesn't have nutmeg in it? I used to make a really hearty one and can't find the recipe. It had cilantro, cream and used stock.

do you like mushrooms? I've got an outstanding rescipe for pumpkin mushroom soup that tastes like a walk in the woods...
if you're interested in that one, let me know and I'll dig it up.

got one for pumpkin pear soup also which is faintly sweet, not sugary, and can be made with or without cream, and eaten hot or cold... excellent with a salad with apples or raspberries on it. let me know on that one too.

when do we need to have the seeds to you? I'm still drying, and I've got a couple more pumpkins to process this weekend.

Not until the first part of January. Now that Thanksgiving is over, mine can be cut up this weekend. I figured with the Holidays people might need a little extra time.

Sounds souper yummy, lol!!!

The one I used was tailored from one that used apples but I left those out. I am kind of strange in that I can't eat sweet ifit's "supposed" to not be....can't eat rice pudding, rice needs salt and cheese....can't eat sweet grits, nutmeg can only go in eggnog, not in meat - sorry Greek food

Pumpkin pie is different, of course, that is supposed to be sweet, but the soup I love hearty!!

looking it up this afternoon.
in the mean time, here's a great link: http://www.pumpkinrecipes.org/

and
here's one I haven't tried yet but looks tasty:
Curried pumpking and mushroom soup
1/2 pound sliced fresh mushrooms
1/2 cup chopped onion
2 tablespoons oil or butter
2 tablespoons flour
1 tablespoon curry powder or cumin
3 cups homemade chicken stock
1 pound can of pumpkin (NOT pumpkin pie filling)
1 tablespoon honey
Dash nutmeg
Salt and pepper
1 cup heavy cream

Saute mushrooms and onion in oil or butter. Stir in flour and curry. Gradually add the broth, then the pumpkin, honey and seasonings to taste. Stir while cooking 15 minutes. Add cream and heat through without boiling. Top with a dollop of sour cream if desired.
Makes 6 servings.

and this one sounds good too:

ACK!!!

Well on the plus size I know my pumpkin seeds are viable....on the downside I need to sort them cause some that were on the bottom layer (and damp) are sprouting!
