I know they are pests, and eat everything out of bird feeders. I've seen them do that many times growing up. However, I'm getting a kick out of watching the ones around here. Every morning they start on the west side of the house and pick at the ground finding stuff for nests and food. They work their way to the east side and I can see them out the window next to my computer. They are just so funny! Every now and then there is a squabble about which one can claim some dead grass or something to eat. They get it figured out and wander around some more. Can you tell I don't have chickens yet? My husband would argue that the grackles are free while chickens aren't, but then grackles don't give us eggs to eat.

I used to have a pet grackle I raised from a baby and he was such a character! They are related to crows so they are very intelligent birds. I really miss my guy!

I love them, too! I miss my Texas grackles, here the parking lots are full of seagulls.

They are very clever birds and the sounds they make are amazing.
