Granny's gone and done it again

Can you afford to take him to a better vet ? Wishing is researching it for you so you will know which med is better but I imagine there are different strains of cocci ? And is the med expired ?

I doubt it’s expired, she got it last year. The meds she’s giving me came from the other goat vet I think, she said he’s worse than the one I went to. The goat sites I’ve read said it’s a great med for cocci, but they all use the liquid and I couldn’t find the tablet info. Neighbor found the 1/4 tablet per 100lbs, but I don’t know how to make that small enough for 10lbs.

Vet gave me Albon, a sulfa med. This is also a sulfa med, but neighbor went to same vet last year, treated with same stuff he gave me, and she lost her goats. So she’s giving me the stuff that saved hers.
From what I have read, the neighbor gave you the best thing. Albon is sulfadimethoxine, and she gave you the kind that also has trimethoprim added, which is supposed to work better according to what a couple people said. Some goat coccidia has become immune to Corid, so I think she is giving you good info. Same old story, since it is off label for goats, no good dosing info.
found this, but it's just for sulfadimethoxine, should work the same... he recommends halving the dose after day one... Maybe for last couple of days?

Albon
(sulfadimethoxine)*
25 mg/lb BW Day 1, 12.5 mg/lb for Days 2-‐5

1/4 tablet will have 200mg

A 10 lb animal needs 250mg, or the whole quarter tab

How much do the goats weigh?

13 lbs each. They had 7.5ml of Albon yesterday, so today is Day 2?

Ok. A cc is the same as a ml. So at 200mg/40mg (which is 1/4 of the strength of the tablet that I have), the 100lb goat would need 2cc, or 2ml, or less than half of the 1/4 tablet. 1/8 of a tablet per 100lbs.

Which still doesn’t get me to 13lbs.

I don't know how to turn the 12.5% solution into mg.
That is something for Kathy (casportpony).

If it were me, I would give each a quarter tablet for the second and third days and see how they respond. Then up to you whether to reduce the last two doses or keep up full strength of all 5 days. You want to kill it all... but use the least amount possible (at least that's my thinking)
Maybe keep the full dosage since they will actually be getting slightly less than they should.
13lb goat needs 325mg
Half a tablet has 400mg
Maybe you could shave a bit off one half...

So I wouldnt dissolve it. Just down the hatch. 1/4th of the tablet. Wishing, your saying 200 mg per 10 lbs and neighbor ? said 200 per 100 lbs. I think that would be way too weak. I would 1/4th a tab. down the gullet maybe like a dog pill the follow with bottle
The paper from the university said 25mg per lb of animal. Quarter tab is a little less, but I think would probably work fine.

I also asked Kathy.
