Downhill from you so all the nasty decomposing stuff is running away from your house & yard. You would want the hole to be deep, so that you would have at least 3 to 4ft of dirt covering the birds. I would put them in trash bags as well to help keep odors down while they decomp.why downhill and how deep ? This dirt is like concrete right now.
