All the feral chickens have the same look... lean and long legged. Hens are mostly black or gold partridge. Males are like the pic or white and red. Chicks try to keep up with mamas, but there is a healthy feral cat population here, so not many survive.
 
Wishing, i hope you are having a great time there. Did you see any Hawaiian geese? I think they are called Nee Nees or something like that, it was back in the 70s when i saw them.

Thanks Cap. We have been doing a lot of family stuff this visit. Wearing out this poor hermit.
The Nene are up at higher elevations. Hubs went hiking in the volcano crater (Haleakala is 10,000 ft) and he didn't see any, but we have seen them before. Very compact birds, kind of brownish grey, with some dark markings. They are skittish.
