Granny's gone and done it again

Did you do a standing rib roast. I want to try that. Like the kind prime rib comes from.
Love prime rib.

You didnt get a gift from your parents? thats too bad.

Granny, you got a special card because you are special!

Playing catch up if I can catch up before sleep. I slept horribly last night (wicked rain) and gotta be up crack of dawn tomorrow. It’s 6:30 am start times for me til payroll is done. The boys not turning their paperwork in really hooped me.

I think so. It was a bone in ribeye roast - so found some how to cook this on the internet, and busted out my cast iron Dutch oven (cause that’s all the cast iron I have - luckily the roast fit!!) preheat the oven and Dutch oven to 500. Slather that roast with sea salt, cracked pepper and more minced garlic than the recipe called for cause dammit garlic is good...put it bones down in the pan and cook it like that for about 20 minutes, turn down the heat to 325 and let it go about an hour and a half longer...perfection.

It reminded me though. I need a new meat thermometer worth a dang. The one I have is about as useful as udders on a bull.

Had a good dinner at the mil’s place though it got off to a rough start. They adopted a new Aussie (dog) and he’s very aggressive to other dogs (pecking order is worked out in their home pack at least but it took a while) so the second he saw peach he was going after her leg. (She wasn’t hurt, thankfully) separated them rather quickly and he got booted outside. Peach...was acting a bit funny after but I thought it was just her nerves from the little guy going after her and not having visited the mil in a while. No, she had to go...dropped a deuce right on the living room floor. Oops. So I cleaned it up and kept an eagle eye on her...she ended up hanging out in the backyard (so separate from jerk dog) and remembered they had a pool. So she went for a swim and was therefore locked out the rest of the evening. Oops. Oh well. She has fun and has some good plays with the other Aussie (named peaches) and their husky.

Neither of my kids even sent me a card. No call, no gifts. Makes me sad.
That is sad. :( I saw where you said your son called you, finally. Glad for that.

And every year when Christmas comes, I realize anew,
the best gifts life can offer is meeting folks like you.
And may the spirit of Christmas that forever endures
leave its richest blessings in the hearts of you and yours.

That's how I feel about it and why I love sending cards. Cards and the tree and having family together is all I need.

Just made it home a few minutes ago. I’m exhausted. It wasn’t so bad having everyone together. But man was it loud and crazy.
I do think the anticipation over things like that is usually worse than the actual event. Glad it wasn't so bad.

Glow-in-the-dark moss or mushrooms. Men my Dad's age and older always found it in the woods as boys. But no one spends much time in the woods after dark anymore. I’m going to look for it when I get back home.
Hope you find some! That sounds neat. There is a type of bioluminescent mushroom (Western Jack o'Lantern... granny posted a picture of some... the green ones) that are around here, but I've never seen one. Would be cool. I was so excited seeing fireflies when I went to visit granny in Indiana. It's magical seeing things like that.

Hello anyone who is still up. We ate like pigs and opened a few gifts... all very enjoyable. I am tired, but it's a good tired. For once, I got the dishes done before bed, but my back is making me pay. Sis and i are going looking around tomorrow to see if any good Christmas stuff is on sale. I always look for cards to be marked down. :) Right now we are watching the basketball game (recorded it earlier) and trying to decide if I can squeeze in one more choc chip cookie. Just one more...
