You could lay PVC pipe and run the extension cord through it.

thats not the first time that has happened either. At least it was in the run. No clue what to do for winter now

Depends on what caused the burn. Drawing too much amperage or was it damaged by something chewing through it. Might try a heavier cord.

It was 100 ft cord and it went from barn to run on a 1500 watt pond deicer. Melted where the deicer was plugged in.

But no wonder your bill was high. The 250 watt heat lamps pull a lot, that is crazy high. They use those for 100 gallon stock tanks!!!
