Wow. That's quite a hard life. Your poor uncle. Terrible, but at least he survived.

said they were loaded on a box car standing room only for a long time and that a rat would of been in danger if there had been one.

I will never forget that day. I was sick with worry . My mom and step were on their way down from Fl. for Roberts Bday.  Longest day of my life waiting for word from them.

I can't imagine going through that wait. I was in fifth grade at the time. I remember another teacher rushing in saying to turn on the tv quick! And turn to the news. Had a tv on one of those huge carts.

We were mature and grew up in a rural community. If you can work on the farm you can watch that. It was a part of living history. You can't do that nowadays. Permission slips and all that junk.

LOL they used to shanghai the groom . Not sure thats the right word . but they would kidnap the groom on the wedding night and run him through some crazy stuff. LOL
