We don't heat the house above 60, but I have 2 heas lamps running (for Seramas and dogs in the garage) and we keep an electric heater going in #1's room for the caged birds. Too cold for them otherwise.

I kept my birds in an unheated basement in detroit. They get used to it just like the chickens do. You cant just throw them in the cold but they can acclimate to it.

Lupin, the parakeet, is getting older and not handling the cold as well. This is the first time we've ever used heat for them. Ming enjoys it too. She jumps up on the table and sits behind the cages. The birds are used to her now. You can always find the warmest place in the house by finding Ming. Usually, it's my lap!

I'll keep that in mind !

Controlling Bamboo - Bamboo Garden

www.bamboogarden.com/barrier%20installation.htm

Is this feasible for you ?

Bamboo is way too much work. Only thing would be to get one of the few non spreading species.

It's ivy that I am battling now. It grows in from the edges of the property and birds poop out the seeds all over other areas. It's a constant battle, along with the blackberries.

I meant use this method to control the ivy. I have done this before. I didnt know it could be spread by seed ?

We have the fog but no snow or mist. Prime example why using the airport as official reporting station is BULL they are 10 miles south of town

It doesn't grow down very deep here, too much adobe. It spreads over the surface of the ground and over shrubs and trees, easier to to peel it back and cut it to the main roots which have to be dug. Mature ivy has different leaves, it flowers and have berries.
