I doubt that anyone has been watering the roses. They are probably gone. Doing what you said still doesn't help the fact that the plant you end up with won't be on hardy root stock.If you go back over there instead of cuttings you can injure a stem and bend it down to make contact w/ the soil and it will take root there. Then you would need to go back the following yr to clip it from the parent plant
