Granny's gone and done it again

The trick with new glasses is to start the morning with your new glasses.

If that doesn't work, you need to call and get in to have them adjusted and/or make sure the RX is right.

Labs make mistakes. Sometimes some of the measurements can be off, the biggest one I saw was the focal point in the lenses being off. Happened to my glasses once. One lens was perfect, the other's focal point was off quite a bit. The labs are supposed to be checking all that stuff before they send them back to the doctor but hey, in the world called perfect that stuff doesn't happen. Unfortunately this world is not called Perfect.

Howdy all. I spent yesterday trying to catch up on work that I didn't do for a couple of years. Yeah, sounds bad but it isn't as bad as it sounds. Our house is Huge.. I can concentrate on keeping the main living area clean and there are still 6 rooms that need attention but that we are only occasionally in. An upstairs attic area, utility room, project room, small storage area, hobby room and attached shop. Yesterday I started on the project room and today am stiff and sore. DH suggested I take the day off from that room and hey! Don't have to tell me twice to take it easy!
Same here. Huge house, little me. Fortunately (for me), GirlChild between jobs again, wants gas money. I'm willing to pay for housework and she's willing.

Not me. First dogs..then on the phone for a while. 🙄 Finally. I got things straightened out. I will be getting her ashes. Whew. Thought I would say something since I brought it up yesterday. Going to spread her ashes in-between my mother and grandmother's graves..they are side by side. No funeral. Like I said. Long story short. ♥️ Just happy that she isn't in pain any longer. Diabetes got the best of her. Her poor little body is at peace now. Still, being the oldest I thought I wouldn't have to go through these deaths. That's two sisters now. Three years in a row losing a loved one. It can stop for a while now.

I think it was here that I was talking about our antique table. 🤔 So here are some pics. Starting with some of the support system, which is the original color, or at least the aged original color.

The table top was in really bad shape. It had already been refinished many times, so don't grieve that its original color, age and patina were lost. That happened long ago. But someone had tried to polish and shine it using floor wax. 😕 This had to be stripped off, as everything I tried just resulted in dulling and balling it up. So here is the surface now.

The table with two 10" leaves is 70" long, or 5'10". I thought we had three more leaves but I can only find two. Adding those two leaves would make it 7'6", not 13', as I originally stated. I apologize for the exaggeration! I'm actually terrible with numbers. The other two leaves, incidentally, did not get refinished due to my shoulder surgeries.

She developed a rare parasitical infection called Pythiosis. It's an amoebic type parasite that can live in still water. All 5 of them had access to a 40 foot pond that was behind our barn. They all loved to play and splash in it so we didn't think anything of it and had never heard of pythiosis before.

She started vomiting, refusing all food and all she drank came back up. Vet thought she had gastritis and gave me meds. Next day she was worse and starting to dehydrate. Vet blew us off, gave us more nausea meds which she promptly threw back up. By Sunday she was worse yet and started passing bloody diarrhea. We paniced at that but the Vet's father, also a vet just said, well we could take her to Columbia and the Vet college there but they couldn't help her. We wound up rushing her to another vet nearby who said, she wouldn't survive the trip to Columbia and worked to stabilize her so Monday morning we could get her to Columbia and the Vet college hospital there.

They suspected she had swallowed something that was blocking her intestine but one test lead to another and the last thing they did was an MRI and that is when they found that there were colonies of this parasite in her that had blocked her bowel, invaded her stomach. She had peritonitis and there were these tumors all over her digestive tract that are caused by the parasite. No cure. No treatment. Most dogs are immune to them but for some reason our sweet Sidney wasn't. We had no choice but to have her put to sleep as by this point she was suffering.

Even if the local vet had taken things more seriously, she would have still died but as it was we lost a loving young cattle dog who suffered far longer than she should have and he lost clients with 11 animals.

I spread the word now not to let your dogs play in or drink out of water puddles or standing water. There are thing in them that you can't see that can potentially kill your dog.
I remember this now. I remember you sharing this when it happened, I think. It's still heartbreaking. And shocking. Maybe now would be a good time to revive your thread, as people may start going out and taking their dogs out to play in woods, parks, lakes, etc., to warn them, get the word out.
:hugs. Nobody wants to see this happen to another dog. In all honesty I had forgotten all about it.

I lied again. I found two of the leaves and one of them did get refinished. I put it in the table. I still think there is one more floating around in this big ol' house somewhere. I will look for it, but there is a lot of "somewhere" in this house for stuff to disappear in.
