Yes, it was freezing rain all yesterday afternoon. Streets were pretty bad. Then we go about 3 inches of snow overnight. It's not gonna get above freezing until you Saturday noon so it's gonna stick around.

I couldn't get the doors open on the vehicles for a long time yesterday. They were all frozen shut. After a couple inches of freezing rain, sleet and snow, it finally turned to all snow.
We have about 8 inches on the ground and at least 2 more coming.
I'm not planning on leaving the house till next week. The snow isn't going anywhere till then with temps in the single digits at night and not over freezing during the day.
I'm glad we didn't get enough ice to lose power. I hadn't had time to test the generator before the storm hit.

I am planning my spring chick order. For dark eggs, do I want Wyandottes or Black Copper Marans? Also they have to be fairly productive and get along with everybody. What do y'all recommend?

Wyandottes won't give you dark eggs.
In order of darkness, Marans come first, then Penedesencas, then Welsummers, then Barnevelders followed by Langshans.
However, the breeders need to select for dark eggs or that trait will be lost - even with Marans.

Why is it the BYC has forums for buying/selling eggs and/or hatchlings?

It was at one time that you posted what you had for sale, in search of, and auction-type listings. The past few years every time an ISO post is put in those threads the response is to go look in your state thread. It use to be very frowned on to do that here. Now it is common to see it.

Most people I know, if they wanted local would not be on here looking for eggs or hatchlings. Most of what is offered around me are inbred and/or mutts. Very little is actually true to breed.

I was gonna say, when did Wyandottes lay dark eggs?

I suspect the fluffy feeted black girls I got from the MiL are some form of Marans. I'm getting DARK eggs from someone! And yes, I do have *a* dark egg layer in the flock, but now I'm getting 2-3 dark eggs a day, so...
