Granny's gone and done it again

@lovesfarms, that is where his doctor comes in. He is where he is now due to his diagnosis. I dealt with these people professionally. You cannot go to war one on one with them without having your doctor behind you with the right diagnosis. Without them they will deny anything they want to.

I never had problems with my father's coverage nor was it complicated, and I knew only what nurse's needed to know and that was enough to make me distrust them immensely.

Which is why I also recommended that Granny talk to the Social Services dept at the facility where Tom is. They can explain everything to her in a way that the common lay person can understand. That is what they are there for.

I had more people approach me about their insurance coverage when I worked with my husband. All coverage was basic for the major insurance companies. I could tell them what their co-pays would be and a rough estimate on how much they would be charged. Plus, Medicare I know for sure gives out an annual handbook for all members. Tom probably has one. I know I just got a new one myself I think within the last couple of months.

But it all comes back to the doctor. Without good communication between the doctor in charge and the patient's family, nothing is going to get straightened out so I stand by my statements.

Talk to the doctor first. If the facility won't put you in contact with him or her, find out what his name is and do it yourself. The nurses at the facility should be getting in touch with her whenever the doctor goes through to inform family of any medicine changes/etc. A family member has asked me when the doctor was due to make rounds so they could be there to ask questions. We always told them and called them when we knew for sure.

If that communication is not there, he's not in the right facility anyway. Just the opinion of an experienced nurse who cared about her residents like they were my own family.
Like I said, Granny may decide. I don't want her to think she is going to war with anybody.
Only find out what her insurance really covers so she can make an informed decision. Nobody knows what your insurance covers like the insurance company themselves.

Figuratively speaking...war but I have locked enough horns with insurance companies both professionally and personally that war is the only way I know to describe it and pls, until you have walked a mile in my nurses shoes and worked as an insurance filer in a medical office as the old saying goes....

We are going to have to agree to disagree. My advice or my opinion isn't going to change. Granny has the weight of the world on her shoulders right now. She doesn't need fast talking insurance shysters, be they Medicare, Medicaid or whoever talking her in circles, which is what they will try to do. Tom's doctor will have the answers to questions she has and will answer them honesty as will the facility's social service dept. They are the professionals that she needs to trust. Insurance companies last.

@Granny Hatchet if you have any questions or need a shoulder to lean on when it comes to dealing with Tom's dementia, pls feel free to PM me. For your sake I'm bowing out of this conversation.

What what?

I didn't know you were sick, Nomadicus. Must have missed that along the way. Nothing serious I hope.:hugs
Nothing much. Strep and they caught early stage pneumonia with an X-ray. It must have been going around town and may have detected it with the scope they put on me. Normally Ma would have already taken a listen but I had just started coughing more than an occasional hack.

Well thank the Creator that they caught it early! A wife with a stethoscope is worth her weight in tongue depressors!

Strep by itself is nasty business. Hope you are feeling better and have it as a thing of the past by Christmas!

Ladies, please don't get upset or argue about this. That I hate to hear. Have you ever heard there's more than one way to skin a cat? I will talk to both and I can tell when Im hearing the right thing. I really appreciate the BOTH of you for being helpful and worrying about me.

Some months back is was strep with COVID. Not sure if I got a better deal this time or not. I know I have been a lot weaker and tired this time.
My husband has a friend who got Covid. His daughter is a special ed teacher and the school principal was running around with it at the school. Yeah, talk about being a few bubbles off plumb.

Three weeks later his family was over it and he was trying to cough up a lung. Pneumonia bad enough to put him in the hospital. Not something to mess around with. Let's hope you are over everything once and for all.
