Granny's gone and done it again

You like the white ones, don't you?

Very sobering day today. On Wed evening a body was discovered in a shallow grave at the university where #2 goes to high school. It was in a field near a parking lot at the edge of the campus. This morning the identity of the dead person was on the news. Turns out it was someone we know.

18 yr old boy, just graduated from high school, apparently missing from home since Oct.17, named Kirk Kimberly. #1 met Kirk in preschool and they became great friends all through elementary school, even though we lived in a different town from his family. He and #1 were extreme Lego nerds and spent a lot of time together either here or at Kirk's house. They eventually grew apart as they grew up, and the visits ended, but Kirk's mom and I kept up a little with occasional Christmas cards. I can't imagine how devastated Jennifer must be. Kirk was their only child. #1 never had another friend that he clicked with as much as Kirk, never anyone to come over and hang out. #1 is being very quiet, but I know he is upset by it. Said we need to send a card and if they have a vigil or memorial he wants to go. Maybe that doesn't seem like much, but for a kid who would never leave the house if he had his way, it is significant. At this point, there is no info about how he died. It's being investigated. Heartbreaking. Hug your loved ones, because you can.

Oh, Wishing, my heart breaks for you, your son, this boy's family - and all who loved him. I am so very sorry.
I don't know if this is helpful... I have had a ton of kids in my life... Used us as a second home. Some chose one direction and some choice the other.... That doesn't stop you from loving them. The justification can never be understood and the best thing is to remember them as the loving kid that hugged you. That called you second mamma... And keep that close to heart. Please give your son big hugs from us.

Such beautiful words, Linda.
well I just did the math and need to get up about 6:15 to 6:30 so I can get coffee made and 2 thermoses filled and ready to go by 7 am Sunrise at 7:40 and we can officially start hunting 1/2 hour before sunrise to 1/2 after sunset.
Happy Hunting!!!!!

Well all. I'm still not 100 percent. I'm gonna try to come on in the morning but will probably be off all day sat.. Sunday is my time line to pull myself out of this. Love you all. Love you wishing. Xoxoxoxo. I wish I could have helpedz

to you
It was near dark when a landscape worker discovered what he thought was a body. The police were concerned that they would destroy evidence in the dark if they disturbed the scene, so they didn't even verify that it was a person. The field is unmowed, and there is tall dry grass all through, over 2 ft high. They cordoned off the area and an officer stayed all night to guard it. I did not hear about another boy standing by, but Kirk had been reported missing Oct. 17, so it was probably a concerned friend. They police didn't really have a choice. If they walked over useful footprints, that would have been worse. The parents will need to know what happened. Kirk's high school is very near the scene (different than #2's) so it could have been a student.
Exactly - and actually very well done vs. the way it was apparently reported.

Can't you put orange vests on them so the hunters won't shoot them.
Had to laugh at this -- DD and I used to joke about going around and putting hunters orange baseball caps on all the deer in the woods around our place. In all seriousness, though, livestock loss during hunting season is a very real issue -- not all hunters practice good hunter safety. Even taking precautions such as safety orange halters/blanket/etc and moving your animals away from wooded areas and into the pastures closest to a dwelling, etc is not always enough, especially if an irresponsible hunter is in the area or someone using that as an excuse just to be a donkey-hole.

going on 1 am here . Mares idea worked and I have pumpkins to pick up tomorrow and possibly 3 bales of hay from the pizza place in Versailles !
Hope ya'll enjoy your night as much as I have.
sweet dreams, sleep well.

Oh, yay --- so glad to hear it worked out!

Mare had suggested that granny look for some place taking down a Halloween display to score a free bale of straw for the turkey and pumpkins for the chickens.

Wow that's brilliant. They were launching pumpkins into the air and letting them splat. I asked if I could take the mess home.
